MWC Green Bay Oconto Wisconsin WALLEYE TOURNEY
Press Release
DAHL/STACK WIN MWC -
WALLEYE TOURNEY
WISCONSINITES TOP LITTLE BAY DE NOC FIELD WITH 48.78 LBS.
GLADSTONE, MICH. – Brothers-in-law, Kevin Dahl and Steve Stack of Muskego,
Wis., won the -
Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) Team Walleye Tournament held August 28-29
on Lake Michigan’s Little Bay de Noc at Gladstone, Mich.
The winners put together consistent catches of 25.84 and 22.94 lbs.,
an allowable ten fish MWC limit totaling an impressive 48.78 lbs., nearly
a five pound average. Their first circuit victory was worth $12,500.
According to Dahl, “We fished an area between the Cedar and Ford Rivers,
trolling nightcrawler spinner rigs between 14 and 23 feet of water.
On Saturday we caught fish all day long, but today [Sun.] we had to work
hard for what we caught. Our fifth fish came 20 minutes before the
weigh-in.”
Stack added, “We used two ounce
X-Change bottom bouncers and number five Lindy Hatchet spinners with the
hammered nickel finish on
ten pound test XT line. A critical key to our presentation was the
8-1/2 foot steelhead rods we used. They get the baits out away from
the boat, and the longer rod and softer action of the rods give you more
leverage when fighting a fish—especially when they make that strong dive
at the side of the boat.”
Second place finishers were David Bergan (Elkader, Iowa) and Kevin
Dahlhauser (Cottage Grove, Wis.) with 43.98 lbs., worth $7,500. They
also were the final day Big Basket winners (24.34 lbs.) and received a
pair of Big Jon downriggers and rod holders valued at $600.
Third place and $5,000 went to former MWC World Walleye Champions,
Mel Reichling and Rick Small (Watertown, So. Dak.) who tallied 42.88 lbs.
The top 35 teams shared the $51,200 cash purse. An additional
$6,200 was paid in three daily big fish prizes. Local businesses
sponsored a $570 most improved award, which went to the Illinois team of
Bob Breivogel (Woodstock) and Gary Zalewski (Roselle), who went from 141st
to 56th place. Total cash payout was $57,970.
Reigning MWC World Walleye Champions, Lynn Hanisko and Dave Klasell
(Escanaba, Mich.) captured first day Big Basket honors with 28.94 lbs.
and were awarded a Panther Marine outboard motor lift valued at $500.
They finished fourth with 42.58 lbs. and collected $3,500. Bob Bodin’s
(Red Wing, Minn.) 9.10 lb. walleye was the largest of the tourney.
He received a $1,000 Mercury Marine outboard rebate.
The 197 team field caught 709 walleyes weighing 3,063.94 lbs., nearly
a 4-1/2 lb. average, in the MWC catch and release format.
The fifth and final circuit stop is the North American Fishing Club
MWC Team Tournament, Sept. 18-19, on the Mississippi River at Lake City,
Minn. The 200 team field is filled. For more information contact
