Sportsman's Lodge and Sportsman's Oak
Island Lodge on the Rainy River,
and southern end of Lake of The Woods (Baudette, Minnesota)
-- as of June
15, 2009:
Best fishing in years continues, with good numbers of trophy
walleyes (27 to 30 inches) and limits of eaters, on Lake
of the Woods, out
of Sportsman's Lodge, Baudette, Minnesota.
As temperatures rise, there is consistent,
and often furious
fishing action for Sportsman's Lodge guests on the south
end of Lake of
the Woods.
The walleye bite has been great for anglers
who are guests at Sportsman's
Lodge. Jigging with an orange or pink jig, or a shiny gold
spinner, tipped
with a chub are still bringing in the best results. Fishing
has been best
in 14 to 18 feet or 22 to 26 feet of water. Anchoring the
boat and doing a
little jigging is all it takes to pull in a limit of walleyes
- -and of
course Sportsman's guests are also having a ball catching
and releasing good
numbers of trophies that are running 27 to 30 inches. Due
to the cool
weather, the fish are staying in close, in relation to a
"normal" year. So,
a five to eight mile boat ride from Sportsman's Rainy River
Lodge just
outside of Pine Island on Lake of the Woods is all it takes
to find some
great action - -and includes sauger and jumbo perch.
Here's an unsolicited example of what Sportsman's
Lodge guests say about
this year's fishing: "In our 25th year on Lake of the
Woods, we had the
best fishing yet. Our group of 12 , caught and released
1,011 fish. Biggest
walleye came in at 29.5 inches. This all being done with
temps 20 degrees
below normal!"
Sportsman's Oak Island is in Minnesota, but
within two miles of Canadian
waters. Sportsman's Lodge can hook you up to fish in both
American AND
Canadian waters. Just ask us. This "two-fer" is
a memorable adventure
experience in all ways.
Sportsman's guests are guided in 27 foot,
inboard cruisers, with cuddy and
head. Perfect comfort and safety to go along with fantastic
fishing.
Don't forget muskie season will begin on June
20th - -get your reservations
in for one of Sportsman's Lodge's expert muskie guides.
There are some real
trophies lurking in Lake of the Woods. (This report based
on Creative
Brilliance interview with Sportsman's Lodge co-owner, Gregg
Hennum).
