Holcombe Flowage out of Paradise Shores Resort Hotel & Conference Center,
Holcombe, Wis. (CHIPPEWA COUNTY)  -- as of 10-24-04

(Head):  "Decent, if not spectacular" fall fishing pattern on the Holcombe
Flowage.

On behalf of  Paradise Shores Resort Hotel, Restaurant & Conference Center
on the Holcombe Flowage, here's what Robert "Butch" Wendell and area guide,
Earl Fisk, of the Lake Holcombe Sport Shop are reporting:

Our deer bow and turkey seasons are both open.  Great opportunities.  Come
up and see for yourself.

Water temps on the Flowage range from the mid 40s to low 50s, and the
fishing is decent, if not spectacular.

Anglers are seeing a lot of muskie -- shallow (5 to 6 feet).  Fish the back
bays, or off of bars on the "main lake."  Use suckers -- anywhere from 12
to 20 inches.

Walleye are over hardbottom areas in 12 to 15 feet during the day, and 10
to 12 feet in the early morning and evening.  Use a jig and a minnow.
There are some northern being caught during the day in the same areas as
the walleye.

Northern --little ones -- are scattered throughout the lake, at varying
depths.  Look for whatever green weeds you can find.  Use a sucker minnow,
or you can throw a spoon or spinnerbait.  Depths for the northern will
range from 4 to 15 feet.  Crappie are around the cribs in 15 to 20 feet of
water.  Use a small minnow.

Jim Unser of the Paradise Shores Resort Hotel staff fishes the Holcombe
Flowage almost every day and will be happy to provide information or be
your fishing guide.  Paradise Shores is a very affordable, luxurious and
friendly place to stay, with great food, beverages, and service.  The rooms
are beautifully appointed, and include indoor pool, hot tubs, continental
breakfast, and other amenities; accommodations for disabled.  Lots of great
activities in the area beside fishing include the nearby Ice Age Trail and
Visitors Center, area museums, unique shopping opportunities and warm,
friendly people.
