| Eagle River, Wis. (VILAS COUNTY) -- as of August 25, 2008:
Good to excellent action for musky, northern and crappie, with
a
decent bite for smallies and largemouth, and walleye hitting
fair to good,
in the Eagle River, Wisconsin area.
Musky are providing an aggressive bite in the Eagle River area.
Fish in and
around the weeds in 15 feet of water or less. Multiple baits
are working,
but small bucktails are best.
Northern are hitting strongly in the Eagle River area. Fish
15 feet of
water or less in and around weeds. Use a small Mepps or a floating
Rapala.
Crappie are putting on an excellent bite in the Eagle River
area. Fish 15
feet of water or less in the weeds. Use a Mini Mite, with a
crappie minnow
or chunk of crawler under a slip bobber.
Smallies in the Eagle River area are around hardbottom break
edges in 10 to
20 feet of after, and putting on a good bite when presented
with a tube jig
or deep diving crankbait.
Largemouth in the Eagle River area remain tight to cover in
10 feet of water
or less. Target piers, docks, heavy weeds and downed timber.
Use a lizard
or a floating frog over the top or just under the surface. Good
action.
Bluegills and perch in the Eagle River area are hanging with
the crappie in
and around weeds in 15 feet of water or less, but their bite
is not as good
as for the crappie. Use a Mini Mite, or a one-sixteenth ounce
jig, with a
fathead minnow, or chunk of crawler under a slip bobber.
Now is the time to start getting your gear in shape for the
upcoming bear
and deer seasons. The Eagle River area provides excellent hunting
