and if you ever have people looking for a guide for Lake Sak. I would recommend
Mike, he is a super nice guy and knows how to catch fish.
LAKE SAKAKAWEA 9-19-01 The west end of Lake Sakakawea the past few weeks has been at it's best. Most day's providing limits with most eyes 20 inches and better. Wind is the ingredient for a great day. All techniques including a heavy bottom bouncer and spinner pulled at a power troll speed. Looking forward to fishing with you. 08/11/01 The Lake Sakakawea bite has been great this week despite winds and scattered T- showers. During winds spinners have been hot while the Lindy in a 6 to 10 foot snell have prevailed during the calmer periods. The best bite is still from New Town west near Williston. It's awesome , the amount of pigs being taken this season. many days the average is about 4 pounds with fish up to 10 pounds and fish caught in all age classes. Walleye are definitely near the peak in Sakakawea. Have a great season. Looking forward to fishing with you. Lake Sakakawea 8-5-01 The bite slowed early last week with the combination of barometer drops and full moons. As the weather warmed throughout the week the bite progressed daily with yesterday and today being back to the seasonal par. Lots of fish in the all age class. New Town area to as far west as Hofflin Bay. Many had easy limits using Lindy's and spinners in 14 to 22 foot. Have a great season. Looking forward to fishing with you. Lake Sakakawea North Dakota This huge lake extending 180 miles long ,fed by the legendary Missouri river has been some what of a secret. Often confused with the fisheries south of it's tailrace that have been producing small fish and often enforce slot limits have kept this great fishery an exclusive for the locals. Lake Sakakawea is at it's peek and producing all age group walleyes with fish reaching 14+ lbs., northern pike with hogs reaching the near 30,s, small mouths like footballs, and even the salmon run has faired the past few years. There are no slots or size restrictions on most game fish. Anglers caught an estimated 700,000 + walleye at which an estimated 500,000 were harvested in the 2000 season . The forecast for the 2001 season looks to be even more promising. Our water levels are estimated to be at there lowest ever. This will limit structure, leaving bait fish wide open for feeding frenzy's. We have the best populations of smelt we have ever seen , and another bait fish recently introduced to us called the cisco, at which last year populations exploded in Sakakawea. These cisco's are an extremely oily bait fish that produce monster game fish. With these combinations in place we will see some of the best fishing in the world take place on Lake Sakakawea in the 2001 season. Mike Edwards Captain Walleye Pure Fishing Guide Service (701) 572-6403 www.captainwalleye.com 701-572-6403 or e-mail captainwalleye@dia.net 03/28/01 The fishing forecast for the 2001 season on lake Sakakawea looks to be the best we have ever seen. We have had a great ice fishing season with all ages of fish ranging from one to fourteen plus pounds. I have seen several days were every angler I visited with had a good limit of walleye. Our lake level this year is estimated to be at the lowest ever which means limited access however it also means finding new structure. Not only for the anglers, but for the walleye and bait fish. In normal water levels submerged islands once held feeding walleyes that anglers would have to chase over and around as the walleye followed bait. That all will change. Many of these now islands will hold fish, lots of fish. The bait fish will be limited in their escape thus holding larger schools of fish than with normal water levels. There will also be fewer shallow bays for the bait to hide, and Bait fish will move with the extending mud lines pulling walleye down with them to merge with the already existing schools. In the late 80s eighties we experienced some extreme low water levels. Anglers hammered the pigs, with fish averaging 8 to 10lb. The locals still compare all fishing to that era. Yep!!! It's going to be a great one on Sakakawea. Captain Walleye www.captainwalleye.com/ Please visit these site sponsors |
