Eagle River PMTT (Professional Musky Tournament Trail) Final
Results
The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center
along with local PMTT sponsors, (Eagle River Inn & Resort, Eagle
Sports Center, Eagle Waters Resort, Heckel's Eagle River Marina
and Parson's of Eagle River) welcomed 141 teams of professional
musky anglers to the Eagle River area over the weekend (June
25 & 26). These teams represented musky anglers from 14 different
states. The PMTT anglers started at Eagle Lake at 7:00 am on
Saturday morning where they were able to fish the 10 lakes on
the Eagle River side of the Eagle River Chain for the entire
tournament. Fishing hours on Saturday were from 7:00 am to 4:00
p.m. and on Sunday from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. Seventeen muskies
of 34 inches or greater were caught and registered on Saturday
and 20 muskies of 34 inches or greater were caught on Sunday
and registered.
To place in the tournament 15th place or higher, you had to
catch a 39 inch or greater size fish or catch a double or triple
catch. There were also many smaller muskies caught throughout
the tournament as well many missed muskies. "What a Fishery
with Big Fish", remarked Tim Widlacki, President/Tournament
Director of the PMTT. The PMTT tournament is a total catch and
release tournament. Fishing conditions for this year's tournament
were thought to be rough with high bright blue sunny skies and
hot temperatures on Saturday, and partly sunny and windy conditions
on Sunday.
This tournament's record number of fish caught proved the weather
to be wrong. The largest fish caught in the tournament was 48
1/4 inches on Sunday by the team of John Steckel and Randel
Machtan of Marshfield, WI. They placed 7th in the tournament
with the catch and release of their 48 1/4 inch musky. First
place in the PMTT went to Jason Summers of Lino Lakes, MN and
Tony DeMars of Wyoming, MN. They won the tournament with a triple
catch of 44 1/2 inches, 40 inches and 39 3/4 inches using a
bull dawg for bait. They were fishing deep water on primary
and secondary weed beds. Jason pre-fished the Eagle River Chain
on his own just prior to the tournament, started the tournament
alone boating 2 muskies on Saturday and then with his partner
on Sunday who boated the third musky. With their win in the
Eagle River PMTT tournament, they took home over $19,000 in
cash and two beautiful trophies. Second place went to Tom Olson
and Seamus Hanley from the Chicagoland area. They caught a triple
of 45 inches (Saturday's largest fish caught), 39 1/4 inches,
and 34 1/2 inches to win second place using crank bait lures.
Third place went to Greg Buckmaster and Andy Regenfus of Phelps,
WI with a double of 46 inches and 37 3/4 on a live action lure.
In 14th place out of 15 placings were local residents Jeff Miller
and Louie Dreger of Eagle River, WI. Together they caught a
39 3/4 inch musky. For award pictures and other info, Contact:
