5th Annual Illinois Governors Cup Walleye Tournament March 5,6, 2005.
Teams from Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois found the 5th Annual
Illinois Governors Cup Walleye Tournament on the Illinois River as
productive as ever. The river level in the Ottawa Pool was about normal
and the Starved Rock pool about four feet up with a slow drop. Water
clarity was 18-20 inches in both with the surface temps about 39-40
degrees and cloudy skies. Leading the tournament on day one was Randy
Carroll from Oswego, Illinois and partner Lee Scott from Oswego. They
fished the Starved Rock pool on day one and jigged up a solid 5 fish
limit of 15.25 pounds taking a 1.49 pound lead over second place team
of Tom Giachetto Sr. and Tom Giachetto Jr., from Ladd, Illinois. Day
2 found the weather man calling for windy conditions out of the South
South West with bright sunny skies and 65 degree temps. Randy and
Lee changed up electing to pull Lead core and Crank Baits in the Ottawa
Pool. They again caught a 5 fish limit weighing 9.35 pounds winning
the tournament with and overall 10 fish limit weighing 24.6 pounds
earning them a check for $2,410.00, and a Certificate from Mercury
Marine for $1,000.00. Finishing second the father son team from Ladd,
Tom Giachetto Sr. and Tom Giachetto Jr. with a 10 fish limit of 22.79
pounds and $1,360.00 plus a $250.00 bonus check compliments of Hennepin
Marine for running a Lund Boat. Third place finish went to John Dalzot
and Gary Dalzot from Spring Valley with 10 fish scaling 21.64 pounds
and $940.00. We want to Thank our fine sponsors Hennepin Marine, Lund
Boats, Mercury Marine and Custom Canvas. Complete results of the tournament
