Second year pro George Barach charged from 26th place on day one to win the final In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail event of the 2001 season in Dunkirk New York. Lake Erie provided the setting for 126 of the worlds best tournament pro’s but did not give up her walleyes easily. In fact, Barach was the only angler in the field to catch a limit all three days of the event. Barach used #1 Luhr Jensen Dipsey Divers with a fourteen foot lead tied with 15 pound Berkley Trilene XT mono. His spinners were hand tied with #2 Gamakatsu Octopus hooks and Cabelas #4 copper willow leaf blades. Black was the key color of the Dipseys. He also applied Witchcraft prism tape to each blade. Sampo ball bearing swivels are a standard in all his presentations. Barach also stated his setup with Fireline allowed him to get deep to these fish, but snubbers were mandatory, as fish would rip off easily. Most anglers were not running this set up. Diawa line counter reels and rods ran the Dipseys back 130’ to 140’ in 78-80 feet of water, north-northeast of Dunkirk one mile from the Canadian border. The school was approximately the size of a football field, and his Lowrance Global Map 2000 GPS enabled him to find the school on all three days, as well as monitor his trolling speed to a precise 2.4-2.6 miles per hour. Barach’s Mercury motor combination provided flawless operation during the event. Barach’s clean sweep of this event included the Storm Heavyweight award for weighing in the heaviest basket during the three-day event, as well as the TH Marine live release award. Of special note, these fish were taken extremely deep, but Barach also won the live release award for releasing the most fish of any contestant in the money. This was due to his 1900 Lund Pro-V LE’s livewell system. The Pro-Long livewell system kept these fish fresh in the 100-degree temperatures during the tournament. Barach’s Lund is also Minn Kota equipped and he utilizes Trojan deep cycle batteries charged by Chargers International. Barach is one of the hottest pros in professional walleye angling as he also won the Pro-Team Walleye Event on Saginaw Bay in 2000 and has a top ten finish on the Masters Walleye Circuit and the Michigan Walleye Tour in 2001. He has also qualified for both RCL Championships. In winning this PWT event, Barach will lead the east division to the PWT Championship in Bismarck North Dakota September 13, 14, and 15. Barach’s sponsors include, Lund boats, Mercury,
Minn Kota trolling motors, and Oceanwave. For more information contact
