Pro
Angler & Hockey Player Grabs
PWT Tournament Lead on Day One
Bay City, Wisconsin....Mike Peluso grabbed the lead
in the
Trilene/Mercury Central Pro-Am with 23.65 pounds. Fishing the
Mississippi
River and Lake Pepin, Peluso did exactly what he did at the last tournament,
and captured the day one lead. Peluso, Bismarck, North Dakota,
is a
full-time pro angler and active pro hockey player in the Chicago Blackhawks
organization.
The In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT)
pro and amateur
competitors worked the river near the dam, trolled many flats in Lake
Pepin
and rigged and jigged the wing dams at the lower end of Pool # 4.
Peluso
fished with amateur Jason Bauer, Everett, Washington.
Second place is held by local pro angler and two-time
PWT winner Scott
Fairbairn, Hager City, Wisconsin. Fishing with Richard Lofgren,
Bay City
(the host community), they scored 22.99 pounds. Pro Keith Kavajecz,
Kaukauna, Wisconsin and amateur Brian Schmidt, Cottage Grove, Wisconsin,
had
22.92 pounds for third.
The top spots are extremely tight, with pros Bill
Ortiz, Dodgeville,
Wisconsin, and Chuck Emery, Altadena, California, holding fourth and
fifth
with 22.62 and 21.89 pounds respectively. Eighth place pro Gary
Parsons,
Glidden, Wisconsin, and Dave Klamfoth, Waverly, Iowa, reeled in the
Miller
High Life Big Fish at 8.80 pounds, which will pay $3,000 if it¹s
the largest
over the tournament.
More than half the field caught PWT 6-fish limits.
Of those, most were
released.
Results are posted on the PWT web site: www.professionalwalleyetrail.com,
along with photos of the day¹s action. Many walleye fans
follow the action
on the PWT site, at the Mercury Real-Time Scoreboard. Accurate
weights are
posted immediately as soon as the pro and amateur partners cross the
stage.
Days two and three (Thursday and Friday) feature
stage shows from 3 p.m.
to 6 p.m., with angler interviews. Walleye fans attend the ceremonies
to
learn more about their sport, the same reason amateurs register to
fish. On
the final day, Friday, June 13, approximately $300,000 in pro and amateur
prizes will be awarded, including a $63,000 first place pro prize and
a
$15,500 first place amateur prize. The top 40 places win cash
and/or
merchandise.
This is the third PWT tournament of the season, with
three more
remaining, including the next stop on the New York portion of Lake
Erie,
July 9-11. Amateur openings remain in this event and the Lake
Oahe, South
Dakota tournament the end of July.
The PWT is an integral element of the In-Fisherman
