Reabe and Hoinacki Win $ 11,000 in the Ranger
Boats - Masters Walleye
Circuit Tournament. World Walleye Championship Qualifiers Named.
Lake City, MN - Despite difficult weather on Saturday and Sunday, Bill
Reabe
(Eau Claire, WI) and Tom Hoinacki (Waupun, WI) were able to put consistent
catches together two days in a row to win the final MWC tournament
of the
year.
Saturday's ease off, scheduled for 7:00 am, was delayed an hour due
to
extreme fog. Thunderstorms with heavy rains and winds replaced the
fog early
in the day. And yet, Reabe and Hoinacki were able to weigh 21.89 lbs.
of
walleyes to lead the tournament after the first day.
Sunday's ease off was held amidst strong northwest winds that continued
to
grow throughout the day making boat control extremely difficult. Reabe
and
Hoinacki brought in another 18.09 lbs. to win the tournament by just
one
pound.
In addition to the $ 11,000 first place prize, Reabe and Hoinacki also
pocketed $ 730 on Saturday for their 8.28 lb. walleye.
The catch and release tournament was held on Lake Pepin out of Lake
City,
Minnesota.
Second place was taken by the team of Aaron Matthees (St. Charles, MN)
and
Paul Conway (Winona, MN) with a total of 38.80 pounds. Four pounds
behind
them were last year's winners Rodney York (Centerville, MN) and Michael
Meyer, Jr. (Lindstrom, MN). Their third place victory was enough to
propel
York and Meyer into next years World Walleye Championship.
As the final tournament of the 2001 circuit, this tournament was the
final
opportunity for teams to qualify for the World Walleye Championship.
Teams
fishing each MWC tournament receive points based on their finish. The
top 50
teams based on points compete in the World Walleye Championship.
Topping the list of Champions was the team of John Renschen (Red Wing,
MN)
and Steve DeLain (Red Wing, MN). Their 495 points brought them Team
of the
Year honors along with a check for $ 6,000.
Also crowned were the Father & Son Team of the Year Jim Minnema
(Randolph,
WI) and Tim Minnema (Markesan, WI) and the Husband and Wife Team of
the Year
Chris and Gina Gasser (Random Lake, WI). Both teams received a check
for $
1,000.
Last years top 50 teams will compete this October 17 - 20 in the World
Walleye Championship being held at Treasure Island Resort and Casino.
Spring
flooding forced the rescheduling of the event from May.
