Fishing in the 21st Century

Fishing going into the 21st century has changed more in the last ten years than it had changed in the previous 100 years..  Today we have not only top of the line fully machined reels with smooth casting and vibration free drag, the fastest strongest boats, fuel  efficient  and environmentally safe motors , photo image quality crankbaits, super monofiliament lines, super sensitive graphite composite rods, state of the art electronics, razor sharp hooks and even our protective life vests and clothing are state of the art.  We now have software that can be downloaded in map form onto our GPS and global mapping systems and also software that can track actual fishing results and then allow you to plan your next trip properly. In the first of a series of articles on Fishing in the 21st Century  I would like to take a moment of your time to discuss some of this new software one in particular that I have been using is  FishStat / HuntStat Pro   This new software is available in either Windows 95 or Mac language and is about the easiest software besides PAC man that I have learned to use.  Within fifteen minutes of loading this software I was up and running and already being made aware of the many possibilities it promise’s 

 FishStat / HuntStat Pro  is a database setup strictly to track your fishing trips ,and formulate that into usable sort-able data that can be accessed for future reference  the fields for the Fish Stat pro are as follows date, time, month, water type, water name, wind direction and speed, water temp, water depth, water clarity, weather, , type of fish caught, numbers and weights of fish caught, bait and or lures used, presentation, location, GPS information and general comments.   The basic data entry screen utilizes many pull down menus which make it quick and easy to use..  Now once this information is entered think of the many possibilities this can be used for future .  Say you are going to Lake Pepin , you can now just sort by water type and get the real true information on how any of your  trips were, then nail it down to time of year , water temp etc.  This way you will effectively remember what worked and what didn't.  You can also print out blank pages and take them out in the boat with you on , so you can jot down everything as it happens.  There are many more possibilities lets say you start entering your friends or your clubs fishing trips.  Your database will get larger and you will have more information to pull from.  Better yet how about winning tournament patterns ?  The possibilities are endless.  This software is easy to use and fits right in the pocketbook and also comes with a copy of HuntStat Pro so you can now record your hunting trips.
