Fishing report from Walleyes Inc for the Florida Key's last update October 9, 2010
Florida Keys Fishing Report

Offshore:
“The weather is beautiful, wish you were here!”  The lack of Charter boats getting out fishing is due to the lack of customers in the Keys…  The Dolphin could and should  make a showing offshore in October, but there are few  boats out to find them.  Blackfin Tuna are biting on the Humps when the current runs and pushes the bait out of the depths.
Reefs:
Some Sailfish have been caught, but the main migration is not quite here yet.  A few King Mackerel have also been caught just off of Alligator Reef.  Not a big push of Mackerel, but worth your while if you want to spend some time on the” Macks” after catching a limit of Yellowtail Snapper.  The Y.T.’s  have again been the mainstay of reef action as of late.
Gulf and Bay:
In the Gulf the Spanish Mackerel have shown up if not in numbers, in good size fish.  Some Cobia again were reported, and some keepers in the 20 to 25 # range.   Goliath Grouper are being caught around the Markers and on wrecks in the Gulf.   Up in Florida Bay the Sea Trout are biting very good, even with the water muddied from gusty east winds.
Flats, Backcountry and Flamingo:
A very good, actually incredibly good Snook bite was on this past week.  Guides were hooking Snook in double digits in runoffs and around Mangrove islands.  Although….. there was at the same time a big presence of Bull Sharks.  One guide reported hooking nine Snook and four Redfish and only catching three out of the melee.  The guide in question annoyed his customer when se said that he would not sit and feed the Sharks any more!  And left the fish biting.  The water near the mainland shorelines and at Cape Sable is very Tannic, meaning there is a lot of fresh water perking down from the mainland sources.  Water color goes from brick red to yucky yellow in this scenario, and is considered by many to be less productive than usual.
